WHO WE ARE

ALAN MICHAEL PARSONS, PAUL JOHN DENTITH and NIGEL BUTT

PAUL is a Solicitor Advocate. He conducts Crown Court trials and cases in the Court of Appeal in London. Paul has over 30 years of experience in criminal defence work. In his career he initially worked in the East End of London and Essex before spending nearly 20 years at a highly respected criminal defence practice based in central London undertaking heavyweight high profile and serious defence cases. Paul has worked in Devon since 2006 and continues to represent those accused in the most serious of cases. In addition to criminal defence cases he conducts Firearms Licensing Appeals at the Crown Court. Paul is a qualified Police Station and Court Duty Solicitor.

ALAN qualified as a solicitor in 1983 and has exclusively undertaken criminal defence work for more than 35 years. Alan has worked for his entire professional career in Devon having moved to Torbay in 1986 working for the same firm until the creation of Devon Defence Solicitors and Advocates IN 2016. Alan is a qualified Police Station and Court Duty Solicitor who regularly attends the Police Station to advise clients prior to and in interview and to fully represent them in the Magistrates Court. Alan has a substantial following with many clients who he has represented over a long period of time.

NIGEL qualified as a solicitor in 1989 having graduated from Cardiff University with BSC (Hons) and an LLB (Hons). Nigel has worked exclusively in the Torbay and South Hams areas since qualifying conducting significant amounts of criminal work over that period of time. Nigel is a qualified Police Station and Court Duty Solicitor who regularly attends the Police Station to advise clients prior to and in interview and to fully represent them in the Magistrates Court. Nigel has a substantial following with many clients who he has represented over a significant period of time. Nigel in particularly focused on trials in the Magistrates Court which he conducts himself with a significant success rate. Nigel joined Devon Defence Solicitors in April 2023 from another local firm who have ceased to practice.

The partners and Nigel Butt are fully supported by the following:

  • Danielle Fenton who is a qualified Accredited Police Station Representative and has been with the firm since its start in July 2016.
  • Amy Dandridge who is also a qualified Accredited Police Station Representative having joined the firm with Nigel Butt in April 2023 following the closure of the previous firm where she worked and supported Nigel Butt.
  • Bryony Costin who works for the firm in a secretarial role.
  • Anita Haire who assists Paul Dentith in the running of the Crown Court Department and who is also a qualified Accredited Police Station Representative.
  • Heidi Farrow who is the latest employee to join the firm having joined as a secretary/receptionist in September 2024.
